Legend goes that in London during the early hours of the morning in the summer 1762 when an English earl, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was too busy gambling to stop for a meal even though he was hungry requested a waiter to bring him roast-beef between two slices of bread. The Earl was able to continue his gambling while eating his snack; from here the sandwich was born.
